Abstract

The dissertation "The profile of the school director in the Municipal Public Network of Imperatriz/MA" presents as an object of study the school management and has as its central issue to identify the profile of the school principal in the Municipal Public Network of Imperatriz/MA and what are the implications of your work for the promotion of democratic management in the school space? The general objective of this research is to analyze the profile of the school principal of the Municipal Public Network of Imperatriz/MA, seeking to understand the complexities involved in the construction of this process regarding the profile of the school principal, the normative framework and the political-institutional conditions related to democratic management. As for the theoretical-methodological basis, this research follows the quanti-qualitative approach, as in a first moment the analysis indicators were based on quantitative data, and in a second moment the qualitative data were analyzed. Initially, we analyzed some documents through documentary research, which allowed us to know a little more about the Municipal Network of Imperatriz/MA. Afterwards, we carried out a survey type survey through closed questionnaires with 11 school principals, which provided us with a greater amount of information regarding the population involved in the investigation. The analyzes that supported the results obtained start from the perspective of content analysis, as it is understood that this methodological procedure facilitates the understanding of the reading of documents and the analysis of the speeches (messages) that are present in the responses of each respondent. Throughout the work we discuss: The conceptual implications of capitalist administration theories for school management in Brazil and the role of the school director and its unique characteristic in the development of management processes. In summary, we realize that the profile of the school director of the Municipal Network of Imperatriz/MA is markedly female, with a relatively young group where the majority is over 43 years old and more than half of the group has more than 10 years of experience in teaching at the Municipal Network, and all subjects surveyed have higher education followed by some specialization. We concluded, based on the research carried out, that there is a lack of a continuing education project for school directors that would better accommodate them in their roles and allow for dialogue between peers. The form of filling the position for director has been direct election since 2005, a fact that we believe has helped in the democratization of management processes so far. We observed that the administrative and pedagogical aspects are more valued by the subjects to the detriment of the political aspects that were barely mentioned in their answers. We identified the presence of the Pedagogical Political Project and the School Council as mandatory instruments in the Municipal Network. However, we believe that further research can provide us with more detailed information about how these instruments work in practice.
