LÉLIA GONZALEZ E AMEFRICANIDADE: A construção do pensamento feminista negro no Brasil

Abstract

The aim of this research was to analyze Lélia Gonzalez's contribution to the formation of Black Feminist Thought in Brazil. With an emphasis on the category of Amefricanity, a term coined by the author that reflects the idea that the identity and culture of people of African descent in Latin America are formed by the intersection between African influences and their experiences on the American continent. In this sense, Latin American peoples share the same experience: racism. Amefricanity seeks to validate the particularities of these peoples, especially black and indigenous women. The method of analysis used was historical materialism, which offers a critical understanding of social reality, emphasizing the relationship between economic structures, forms of social consciousness and cultural and political practices. Through bibliographical research, the main categories worked on by Gonzalez throughout her intellectual life were analyzed - the myth of racial democracy, the ideology of whitening, black women - in order to finally examine her contribution to Black Feminist Thought in Brazil.
