Abstract: This dissertation aims to analyze how religions of African and Afro-Brazilian origins
have been represented (or not) in History teaching and how these are understood by
students at the UEB Odylo Costa Filho, located in the Alto da Esperança neighborhood,
in the Itaqui Bacanga area, municipality of São Luís do Maranhão. It seeks to investigate
the inclusion or absence of content dealing with religions of African and Afro-Brazilian
origins in History teaching; to understand how these religions are being addressed in the
research school; and to produce a handbook of guidelines for pedagogical practices for
an anti-racist education based on samba-enredo themes. The relevance lies in the
importance of implementing laws that regulate basic education, specifically Law No.
10,639 of January 9, 2003, which made the teaching of African History and Afro-
Brazilian Culture mandatory in basic education. This justifies the need to produce
scientific historical knowledge that analyzes the absences and silencing of contents that
enable the approach to religions of African and Afro-Brazilian origins in the classroom.
To carry out this dissertation, I utilize Chartier's (2002) concept of "representation." In
addition, texts and images are analyzed based on Bittencourt (1997), who addresses
historical knowledge in the classroom and other authors. The methodology that
underpinned the research and the production of this dissertation is bibliographic,
historiographic, and documentary review, as well as field research (interviews, participant
observation), all referenced in the quantitative and qualitative method, through which I
seek to analyze the representations (discursive and visual), the absences or silencing that
accompany History teachers and other curricular components in the classroom, regarding
or not to religions of African and Afro-Brazilian origins.

Abstract: The present work addresses High School and Local History: The Urban Quilombo of Liberdade
in São Luís do Maranhão. The research object investigated was the Urban Quilombo of
Liberdade with an analysis of Bumba-Meu-Boi, a cultural manifestation formed by various
stories that intertwine at the global, national, regional, and local levels. The general objective
of the research is to enable History teachers to develop creative lessons using local history as a
methodology. The central question of the research is how Local History can respond to the
objectives of the Common National Curriculum Base (BNCC). The methodology used was the
analysis of bibliographic references, images, and laws related to the history of Brazilian High
School.The Didactic Guide for lesson plans is organized into four lesson plans with specific
themes that address the Urban Quilombo of Liberdade. In this regard, the following is
emphasized: Lesson Plan 1 - The Neighborhood as a Laboratory of Local History - The Urban
Quilombo of Liberdade, Lesson Plan 2 - What Bumba-Meu-Boi is this? Lesson Plan 3 - The
Invisible History: Bumba-Meu-Boi and the Possible Connections in the Urban Quilombo of
Liberdade, and Lesson Plan 4 - The Afro-Indigenous Influence in the Urban Quilombo of
Liberdade. The research understands that with the Guide of Lesson Plans about Local History,
the teaching of History becomes valuative, encompassing the stories present in neighborhoods,
streets, street names, squares, and the names of schools among others, enabling a critical and
reflective understanding of local identity.

Abstract: This work aims to reflect on the possibilities of History teaching in the redefinition of societynature relations and to contribute to the construction of more complex perspectives regarding
the environment. In this sense, it seeks to understand and analyze the framework of
Environmental History and reflect on its structuring within the historical discipline.
Furthermore, it explores how perceptions of nature and its relationship with society are shaped
in History teaching, based on the legal instruments that guide education as well as the
perspectives revealed through student activities on the subject. These approaches culminated
in the development of the pedagogical project “The History of Trash”, carried out in
partnership with seventh-grade students at the Centro de Ensino Monsenhor Luís Alves
Madureira – Rosário/MA. The deepening of this experience resulted in the creation of the
Pedagogical Notebook “History, Society, and Nature”, a thematic pedagogical proposal
grounded in historical-critical pedagogy, aimed at History teachers.

Abstract: This dissertation emerges in response to the need to investigate and understand the practices of
teaching and learning History, with a particular focus on the 1st State History Olympiad of
Maranhão (OEHM), an event held for the first time in 2023 by the State Institute of Education,
Science and Technology of Maranhão – IEMA. The event involved the participation of 2,207
individuals, including 2,127 students and 80 teachers from the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd years of high
school within the Maranhão State Basic Education network. The core of this research lies in the
analysis of historical learning experiences during the course of this competition, with the aim
of understanding how this scientific event impacted the development of students’ historical
thinking and influenced the pedagogical practice of teachers. The research seeks to address
fundamental questions about how such a competition can stimulate a critical and analytical
perspective of History, going beyond the limits of traditional teaching. Additionally, it aims to
understand how participation in scientific olympiads can contribute to the expansion of
students’ scientific knowledge while positively influencing teachers’ pedagogical approaches.
Therefore, this dissertation aims to describe and analyze the historical learning promoted by the
1st OEHM, with a view to deepening the understanding of the role of this competition as a tool
for scientific dissemination, as well as its contribution to the promotion of local history and the
enhancement of History teaching in the state of Maranhão. Based on the research conducted,
we developed an educational product entitled HistOlimpíca Digital Maranhense, which will
consist of a specific site designed for teachers, linked to the digital platform of the 1st State
History Olympiad of Maranhão (OEHM). This site will be dedicated to valuing and
disseminating the historical learning promoted by OEHM, offering practical guidelines for
educators interested in applying similar methodologies in their own school contexts.
